Google is acquiring a five-year-old Irish startup retailing app Pointy. The Irish retailing application has solved a problem that most of the startups are facing for so many years. Well as we know that California based American multinational company Google is known for its digital services. The company is at present looking out for new prospects by helping the offline business retailers. Their most modern attainment of Irish startup Pointy further solidifies their approach.
According to the reports by TechCrunch, Pointy the Dublin app has been acquired by the tech giant Google for a reported $163 million that is approx ≈ INR 1,155 Crores. The company also revealed that the deal is about to close in the next few weeks.
“We look forward to building even better services in the future, with the backing of Google’s resources and reach,” the company writes.

Previously a number of tech companies tried to resolve the challenge of how to bring small offline retailers business product inventory online, but eventually, they failed. However, most of the ideas related to the process failed because the bulk of SMB retailers require an advanced level of inventory management systems that can make product feeds and incorporate them with app APIs.
Google acquired the retailing app Pointy so that the company can offer more local inventory data in Google My Business (GMB) listings which are mainly utilized by enterprise merchants. The tech giant Google has been on a lasting assignment to build various strategies that can help the e-commerce world by working more directly with offline retailers, and now it looks like it plans to make bigger that work a small further. Pointy, a startup out of Dublin, Ireland, acquired by tech giant has built hardware and software technology to help various offline retailers specifically, those that might not already have extensive in-store inventory to get their products discoverable online without any additional work.
The Dublin based retailing app Pointy was started six years back in 2013 with the plan of helping local brick and mortar retailers bring their businesses and products online to spread out more visibility. To do so, Pointy uses hardware that could be attached to an offline store’s point of sale/barcode scanning units. This hardware would easily scan all stocks that were bought and would make the data of the products online that would be noticeable to customers looking for the products online.
To further increase the visibility of the offline inventory, Pointy also integrated with Google’s to start the “See What’s In Store” program that would show accessible products in an information panel on the Google search tab. In addition to the above, Pointy also has an application that integrates with some particular POS devices to proffer alike functionality.
The attainment of the Pointy app will now help Google further incorporate technology and offer even better services than before. This attempt is a fraction of the larger picture where Google is trying its best to boost its efforts for product searches.
To make the process easier Pointy had also started to work closely with retailers, thus giving them insights about the process. For now, all this plan is opening a big door to how Pointy and the tech giant Google’s own retail efforts will expand in the future.
