Redmi is traditionally known for delivering budget phones, but the Xiaomi sub-brand has switched to offering affordable flagships in recent years too. Now, it looks like the company is eyeing another segment as well.
Redmi may launch its first gaming smart phone that could be the maiden handset from the Xiaomi sub-brand to use the newly launched MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC, as per a tipster. Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing had hinted that the Redmi K30 Extreme successor will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC that is designed on 6nm architecture.
As per a Weibo post by known tipster Digital Chat Station, Redmi will launch its first gaming smart phone powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC. The tipster did not delve out any more information, such as the name, about the handset.
Several OEMs, including Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, and Realme have announced that they will be releasing phones powered by the new SoC. Realme has even claimed that it will be one of the first to release a flagship smart phone with the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC, that has been launched alongside the MediaTek Dimensity 1100 SoC.
Any decent gaming phone should deliver a high level of sustained performance, gaming-focused software tweaks, and physical inputs of some kind. So hopefully Redmi’s first device ticks all the boxes in this regard.
