Google lately declared the report for a quite odd “bug” that lets iPhone users have unrestricted cloud storage for backing up photos at ‘Original Quality.’ The bug is associated with Apple’s HEIC image arrangement & the size of a HEIC picture would enlarge if Google Photos attempted to condense it for storage space on the cloud. The tech giant has recognized the bug and has assured a fix. However, it’s indistinct how Google is going to fix the difficulty and do fairness to audiences of its own Smartphones.

An ambiguity revealed lately permits iPhone users unrestricted backups at ‘Original Quality’ at the time of utilizing the HEIC picture format. The layout has been explained as ‘too efficient,’ & Google would really boost the file size, in case it tried to squeeze the image files, separately from slaying computing possessions on compressing a bulk of images clicked on iPhones, as well as saved in the HEIC format. In case, users choose the JPG format; the ambiguity doesn’t work.

A Redditor, originally posted the information said, “With all modern iPhones shooting photos in HEIC format, which is smaller than even Google’s compressed JPG files, iPhones therefore get free unlimited ORIGINAL quality backups simply because it would cost Google both storage space (because if Google tried to compress iPhones HEIC photos they would actually become larger) and computing power (because Google doesn’t need to compress and process all of the billions of photos iPhones backup).”

Adding further he said, “So Apple is literally saving Google millions of dollars by shooting their photos in HEIC, and it benefits iPhone users as well because we get free original quality backups.”

Fascinatingly, limitless ‘Original Quality’ backups are an attribute restricted to the former Google Pixel gadgets, with the Google Pixel 4 sequence not getting it. Most of the iOS and Android devices have the aptitude to backup the limitless pictures to Google Photos at ‘High Quality’ that compresses the image; these backups do not count up towards the user’s storage space limit.

The users of Apple iPhone get efficient ‘Original Quality’ backups of the format (HEIC) images even if they have attempted for ‘High Quality’ backups, as a consequence of the bug. The corporation, Google has recognized the bug & assured a fix in a declaration to Android Police.

It told the publication, “We are aware of this bug and are working to fix it.” Though, this fix may be tough to generate because the HEIC format is so competent in provisions of file size. As of now, though, iPhone users are taking pleasure in a benefit that even Google Pixel 4 purchasers won’t get.
