Facebook is known to be experiencing a surge in its user baseamid the coronavirus pandemic lockdowns going on around the globe. The report was confirmed by the company itself as it announced that for the first time, Facebook has witnessed more than 3 billion people were actively using Facebook, along with Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, on a daily basis.
Moreover, the company announced that the appwitnessed a massive growth in the number of messaging, voice, and video calling. Those numbers were more crucial in the areas where Coronavirus has more casualties. Quite recently, the numbers released by Facebook constitute roughly two-thirds of the world’s total Internet population that is almost 4.5 billion.
Other than just Facebook, apps like PUBG, Ludo Star, and TikTok are reporting to be receiving an unacceptable amount of user engagement amid the Covid-19 lockdown.

In a post published today by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said,“in the first quarter of 2020, more than 2.6 billion people were using Facebook alone”.
“For the first time ever, there are now more than 3 billion people actively using Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or Messenger each month. That includes 2.6 billion people using Facebook alone, and more than 2.3 billion people using at least one of our services every day,” Zuckerberg wrote in the post.
Zuckerberg also made a statement that the app’s messaging volume across various Facebook-owned platforms has also increased to moreto 50%since the number of voice and video calling have doubled across both Messenger and WhatsApp.
Later, things were made quite obvious that Facebook is being used the most in those countries where novel coronavirus has the most number of casualties.
“In Italy, for example, we’ve seen up to 70 percent more time spent across our apps, Instagram and Facebook Live views doubled in one week, and we’ve also seen time in group video calling increase by over 1,000 percent in March,” Facebook CEO said during an earnings call.
The handful of posts made by Zuckerberg also pointed at the fact that the company is working onimproving its services in the middle of coronavirus lockdown.
Quite recently itself, Facebookhad launched the Messenger Rooms feature which is reported to have increased the participant limit to up to eight people for WhatsApp group calls.
Facebook is also reported to have initiatedsome measures to put a limit or eventually a stop on the spread of misinformation about the coronavirus. Quite recently, the company claimed that WhatsApp messenger’s highly forwarded messages have gone down by 70 percent which is something to be proud at.
Meanwhile, the company has reported a sudden growth in it’s user base, Facebook has reported the slowest quarterly growth due to the coronavirus pandemic. The company also made statements that the advertising revenue was flat in the first three weeks of April, when compared to the same period last year.
