Earlier this morning, we came to know that Apple’s revamped and more enhanced Maps experience has now been made available all across the States. This redesigned version of the app will provide its users with more accurate information along with comprehensive views of roads, buildings, airports, malls, parks, and many other public places. It will also introduce Look Around feature to more and more number of more cities and a real-time transit to Miami.
The company has invested both time and money in order to upgrade its Maps experience to compete with its competitor Google Maps. That app was replaced with Apple’s own Maps app back in 2012. However, that launch didn’t go well. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook even had to apologize for how Maps failed to fulfill customer’s expectations and promised that the company would do better in the future.
Ever since then, Apple has been making good grounds, by constantly updating Maps and by launching a better MAPS app back in 2018. In 2019, Apple came up with a new “Look Around” feature in iOS13 that was praised by its users. This feature was as same as Google’s Street View. The only difference was its quality and but one that uses high-resolution 3D views.
iOS 13 also introduced other Maps features, like real-time transit schedules, a list-making feature called Collections, Favorites and more.
However, most of the Maps updates were too slow to roll out. Look Around, for instance, is available in a handful of cities, including New York, the San Francisco Bay Area, LA, Las Vegas, Houston and Oahu. With this nationwide launch, you can expect to see it pop up in more major metros cities, though the company hasn’t announced the names in which the update will reflect. For Example, the Real-time transit information is being provided in selected major cities, including the San Francisco Bay Area, Washington, D.C., New York and LA.
And now, Apple has decided to add Miami to that list of supported cities by offering real-time transit.
By the time you are reading this news article, you might have received the update already, so do make sure to check that out. It already has been started to roll out in the United States but that doesn’t mean you’ll see it right away when you launch the Maps app the rollout is phased.
“We set out to create the best and most private maps app on the planet that is reflective of how people explore the world today,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, in a statement about the launch. “It is an effort we are deeply invested in and required that we rebuild the map from the ground up to re-imagine how Maps enhances people’s lives — from navigating to work or school or planning an important vacation — all with privacy at its core. The completion of the new map in the United States and delivering new features like Look Around and Collections are important steps in bringing that vision to life. We look forward to bringing this new map to the rest of the world starting with Europe later this year,” he added.
