Co-founder of the venture, Matt Whitteker, says the Ottawa startup focuses on data analytics in the supply chain, which means it has the resources and the tooling to create a resources-driven supply chain map focused on WHO data detecting COVID hotspots. He believes he is the only business to have done so.

“They are the only ones who took evidence from the supply chain and applied it to the particular pandemic. And this is also unique to our site. We’ve got all the info at hand — we have manufacturer position data. Then it’s only a matter of integrating it with data sources from third parties (such as WHO info), and then generating useful market information from it, “he added.

The firm is collecting supply chain details of 1,000 clients and 500,000 vendors now on their site as part of the act of doing business. “As businesses manufacture products they have what is called a bill of materials, kind of like a recipe. Then businesses post their bill of materials which lists all of their pieces, products and services, and from where they get them, which reflects their supply chain, “explained Whitteker.

After the client uploads the datasheet, Assent opens a database for businesses to share documents, which may be tax reports, evidence of purchase or other records and paperwork that the producer wants to comply with legal and regulatory rules around the procurement of a given part.

They wanted to start designing the COVID-19 map framework when they knew this would be the world’s greatest supply chain interruption since World War II. It took only a month to develop it. It went into beta with customers last week and in the first two hours, over 350 signed up. They made the platform widely accessible this week for free to all, including non-customers.
