Amazon is releasing Climate Pledge Friendly, a new environmental initiative that will mark those items that meet one of 19 sustainability certifications. The aim is to help climate-conscious customers make a smarter choice by letting them know whether a company has attempted to decrease its carbon footprint by purchasing one product over another. Amazon says the program’s mark can be shown now on more than 25,000 items.
Amazon’s press release reads, “Climate Pledge Friendly selection includes grocery, household, apparel, beauty, and personal electronics products, as well as items from a variety of other categories.” Climate Pledge Friendly items are clearly labeled in the shopping results, have additional product page sustainability information, and featured in our store’s dedicated section. Amazon has collaborated with reputable certifications from third parties, and consumers will discover sustainable goods that meet the requirements of sustainability and help protect the natural environment.
To endorse sustainability efforts, Amazon has its reasons: the company is one of the world’s biggest logistics operators, delivering billions of shipments per year and, as a result, using astronomical quantities of cardboard and packaging materials. In addition to the environmental impacts of its ever-expanding distribution network, which involves various modes of vehicles, trucks, ships, freight forwarders, and other modes of transportation of goods?
In a statement, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said, “Climate Pledge Friendly is an easy way for clients to find more sustainable goods that help protect the natural environment.” “We are promoting selling partners to develop sustainable goods that help preserve the earth for future generations with 18 external certification programs and our Compact by Design certification.”
In June, as part of the Climate Pledge commitment it announced last year, Amazon unveiled a $2 billion climate change fund to invest in technology that can eliminate greenhouse gases, including a vow to be carbon-neutral by 2040. In February, Bezos, the world’s wealthiest individual with a net worth of $185 billion, also separately announced $10 billion to fight climate change.

The Compact by Design certification is a new complementary program that seeks to encourage goods that are more efficiently build and thus need less shipping resources. It will be one of the 19 Climate Pledge Compliant certifications that will make a product worthy.
