During the Covid-19 pandemic when shut down most of the financial sectors in early 2020 and office employees were forced to log on from home. Some tech industry packed their bags, declaring publicly their permanent departure from California. Other industries just hit the road, unaware of the final destination where the future will take them.
Whether it was political diminution, high taxes, crime rates rising, or the destructive wildfires that appeared earlier than natural and developed toxic air over wide swaths of California, West Coast residents found lots of reasons to search refuge elsewhere. For people who did office jobs, escaping was pretty simple because they could work from anywhere from beaches, mountains, rental homes, and campsites along the way.
Some of California’s criticism remains the same as ever: income taxes of the state are the top in the country. Rules and regulations are choking. Red tape is everywhere and living costs are rising crazily.
Other regulations were mainly Covid-specific: There some rough and apparently capricious responses have been taken. Businesses and schools were shut down for way too long. Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, seemed like a bigot for attempting a dinner party at the French Laundry restaurant. There one meal costs nearly $300 for each person, while most of the businesses were closed in the state and countrymen were uncertain whether it was secure to step outside or not.
