Indian payments app, PhonePe on Tuesday said its business app will now include vernacular voice notifications in over nine Indian languages including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Odia, and Assamese, and some others to expand the regional reach and expand its financial inclusion goals. Indian payments apps have been making efforts to make their apps more user-friendly for all kinds of people. PhonePe is now focusing on tier II and tier III and lower cities, expanding its services to reach maximum users.
Earlier this month, the firm said it had processed over 11 million insurance premium payments on its app in 2020, with over more than half of them coming from users in lower-tier cities. Vivek Lohcheb, Head of offline business development at PhonePe, said “We are constantly building new features on the PhonePe for business app to make it easier for our merchant partners to run and grow their business”. The latest feature will likely help over 15 million merchant partners pan-India in accepting payments in a comprehensive language. “The multilingual voice notification functionality makes it easier for our merchant partners to attend to their customers while also making sure that payments have been received during peak hours in the language of their choice,” Vivek said.
PhonePe had recently cut ties with its parent company Flipkart over a deal that helped the former raise $700 million in primary capital and gain more autonomy over its operations.
