The government wants to know the impact of its all-in-one government services UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) app that was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in November 2017. The app was designed to provide over 2,000 government services on a single window and currently has around 25 million registered users.
Although it has been three years since the launch of the app, it has not received the desired response. Overall, the app has seen 39 million downloads in the past three years. The Ministry of Electronics and IT (Meity) has come up with a request for proposal (RFP) to pick an agency that will analyse the impact of the app from both the citizens’ point of view and the government departments. The agency will try to find out the impact of the UMANG app on various sections of society and also the reasons behind citizens not downloading the app. It will also find out the app’s influence on the participating departments like service reachability, efficiency, financial impact, among others.
As of November 30, 2020, the UMANG app has on-boarded 194 departments, which offer over 2,000 services in 27 states of India. The app is available in 13 different languages and provides various government services like Aadhaar, Bharat Bill Pay, gas booking, Passport Seva, PAN card, Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), pension services, and more. The app is made to access on Android, iOS, Windows mobile, and Kai OS.
Minister for IT and communications Ravi Shankar Prasad had also launched the international version of the UMANG app in November this year. It aims to help Indian international students, non-resident Indians (NRIs), and Indian tourists abroad, avail of services of the government of India, anytime. This app will be available in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, the UAE, the Netherlands, Singapore, and New Zealand.
