Google has finally announced its plans to open a new cloud area in Warsaw, Poland to serve its customers in a better manner in Eastern and Central Europe. This announcement is part of Google’s general investment in growing the physical footprint of its cloud data centers. After this announcement made by the tech giant, the company announced that, in the upcoming next two years, it would spend approximately $3.3 billion on its data center presence in Eastern and Central Europe alone.
The announcement by Google underscores Google Cloud’s ambitions to expand its cloud reach across the European region. According to an interview with CNBC Thursday, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said Europe is a “big area of focus” for all the businesses.
“We’re actually growing faster in terms of people, customers, revenue here than in any other part of the world,” Kurian said. At present Google operates 20 cloud regions all across the world, including six in Europe. This new region will consist of 3 ‘zones,’ geographically separate data centers within the Warsaw region. The Warsaw region, like most of Google’s regions, will feature 3 availability zones and launch with the complete standard core Google Cloud services, which include Compute Engine, Cloud Bigtable, App Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Spanner and BigQuery.
To launch this new cloud region in the country, Google will partner with Chmury Krajowej and the Polish Development Fund. The Domestic Cloud Provider (DCP) will soon become a Google Cloud reseller and will build managed services on top of Google’s infrastructure.

This cloud region will include various infrastructure data centers. The Cloud computing services allow consumers and businesses to store and access apps, data, and software over the internet, as an alternative of locally storing data on a hard drive or server. Before this announcement, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has announced that the company is investing $3.3 billion to increase its European data centers.
According to Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian -“Poland is in a period of rapid growth, is accelerating its digital transformation, and has become an international software engineering hub,” writes Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian. “The strategic partnership with DCP and the new Google Cloud region in Warsaw align with our commitment to boost Poland’s digital economy and will make it easier for Polish companies to build highly available, meaningful applications for their customers. Google Cloud CEO further added”
In addition to the above, the biggest cloud services providers in the world Microsoft and Amazon are also planning to expand their infrastructure in Europe. At present Western Europe represents one-fifth of the overall global cloud marketplace, according to the latest research from IDC.
