Finally, it’s here the update for the Google’s OS for wearables, the Android Wear 2.0, with its all charm and glory. After months of delay and disappointment in the Google fans, the company has confirmed the release of the OS in coming month. Although Google has released its developer preview last year, but now it’s time to hit the complete bag. With the announcement made in Google I/O in May, 2016, this was much awaited by the tech lovers all over the planet. The might be due to the reason that none of the major smartwatch manufacturers released their product in previous year. But now LG is coming up with two smartwatches LG watch Sport and LG watch Style, that will run Android Wear 2.0 right out of the box. Here’s what you need to know about the big launch.
The biggest change with Android Wear 2.0 will come in the form of standalone apps. Which simply means that the smartwatch will now be free from smartphones and your apps in smartwatch will work even if you don’t have Wi-Fi of mobile data. Which translates that you can download apps directly on smartwatch. This is possible because Google has removed Data Layer API’s. Techy! Isn’t it?
But there is a whole lot more. Google says, “faster, richer on-watch experience” is provided in the new update. And with the support for standalone apps, the update will feature standalone Google Play Store, helping the users to download apps on watch itself. With this you can search for apps, get paid apps and that too without the intermediate support of the smartphone.
New material design will also be featured in the new OS. This will support all new app launcher and an action drawer at the bottom of the screen. The users will witness a completely new design and themes and watch faces with the new tech.
As Apple uses it, Google will now let third party developers to include data from other apps. You chose from the watch faces and display the information that you want to use, from steps counter to heart monitor, it can show almost anything you wish to see. The same as Apple does the stuff. This will surely mark the tough competition among wearable app development companies.
The Google has taken care of fitness lovers, by including the Google Fit API which provides the data to third party apps. Featuring new activity recognition will track your movements and your sleep. This will let you download any fitness app from top android app development companies and use it on the smartwatch
Since the Android Wear has made smartwatches independent from smartphones, now you can play music directly to your Bluetooth headsets from the smartwatch itself, without involving your phone in between.
Google has send an e-mail to the developers that the update will go live from the first week of February this year. The possible launch date is however, expected to be 9th of Feb. Apart from LG’s new smartwatches, few others are getting the update including, Asus ZenWatch 2 and ZenWatch 3, Moto 360 (2nd Gen) and Moto 360 Sport.
