After a grand attempt to connect India, which was shunned by the government of India, under the banner of internet.org, Facebook is all set to launch its new project to bring the people closer.
Facebook’s Express Wi-Fi has come into the frame of Indian Picture. As reported by its website, the first testing was done in the remote parts of the country.
On the Express Wi-Fi venture, the company stated “we’re working with carriers, internet service providers, and local entrepreneurs to help expand connectivity to underserved locations around the world. We’re currently live in India, and are expanding to other regions soon.”
“Express Wifi empowers local entrepreneurs to help provide quality internet access to their neighbours and make a steady income. Working with local internet service providers or mobile operators, they’re able to use software provided by Facebook to connect their communities,” the website states.
It’s additionally being stated that with Express Wi-Fi Facebook permits its customers to “purchase fast, reliable and affordable data packs via digital vouchers to access the internet on the Express Wifi network”.
The spokesperson added, “We focus on building a sustainable economic model for all stakeholders involved, so that local retailer entrepreneurs, ISPs, operators and Facebook can continue to invest in and operate lasting connectivity. We believe a sustainable economic model is the one which can scale to bring all of India online,”
On a serious note, the Facebook hasn’t revealed the entire details related to Express Wi-Fi viz. the places where Express Wifi program is live currently and pricing to access the internet.
Reportedly, it’s also claimed that Facebook has partnered with the RailTel for its Express Wifi Program, the company which has a partnership with Google for its free Wi-Fi services at about 50 railway stations in India.
Express Wi-Fi is none other than a transformative face of Facebook’s Internet.org initiative which was shunned by the Indian Government as the initiative was leading to the violation of net-neutrality by providing unlimited access to limited services.
Hence Facebook, with a mass transformational formulation, has come again into the picture with Express Wi-Fi after being questioned on the grounds of privacy violation. Facebook took a serious concern over the things, especially to curb the freedom of net neutrality and now formulating them on the basis of financial grounds.
