WhatsApp has begun testing its end-to-end encrypted chat backups on its latest iOS Beta. The company had previously made an announcement on Sep 10 to launch this feature soon on both Android and iOS versions for which it seems to be committed.
WABetaInfo spotted the newly added feature on latest WhatsApp Beta app for iOS and shared an image showing a message of the onboarding screen informing users that end-to-end encrypted backups are off, and when it is turned on, neither WhatsApp nor Apple will be able to access the backup.
The feature will be available for Beta testers who have installed the latest testing versions of WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business. Those users who are not on the Beta program might see this feature after they install this update. If you want to know whether you can access the backup, you can go to WhatsApp Settings and then tap on chat backup, and then tap on ened-to-end encrypted backup.
WABetaInfo revealed that users can go the iPhone settings and tap on their name, then go to iCloud, click Manage Storage and then tap on backup and disable the option for WhatsApp. As the backup will not be encrypted, hence, users should disable this method and use end-to-end encrypted chat backups feature.
