No one is without regrets in their life as mistakes help us to learn. But not true for Bill Gates. Not exactly! The victory of Google’s over Microsoft in the mobile business is not going to change but Bill Gates considers this mismanagement as his biggest regret.
Without any deny he was one of the most winning technology CEOs in history but even Bill Gates has regrets in his life about the way he has mismanaged his firm and missed this great opportunity. The 63-year-old Microsoft Co-founder has underlined that while Microsoft Company is still a “very strong “and if things are in favor then, it would be “the leading company” of the world as an alternative to “a leading company” if he had managed the things in the right manner- The 63-year-old expressed his disappointment at an event. He also had spoken out about his pain over not inventing the Android platform as a rival operating system (OS) to Apple’s iOS platform.
In an event hosted by “venture capital firm Village Global”, Gates said that that the mistake was to allow Google to develop Android and not creating a platform model themselves, according to the reports by TechCrunch.

Bill Gates told Eventbrite co-founder and CEO Julia Hartz that – “In the software world, particularly for platforms, these are winner-take-all markets. So the greatest mistake ever is whatever mismanagement I engaged in that caused Microsoft not to be what Android is. That is, Android is the standard non-Apple phone platform. That was a natural thing for Microsoft to win,” he said.
“If you’re there with half as many apps or 90 percent as many apps, you’re on your way to complete doom. There’s room for exactly one non-Apple operating system and what’s that worth? $400 billion that would be transferred from company G (Google) to company M (Microsoft),” he further added.
As the windows platform is dead and thus Microsoft’s Windows-powered phones by Microsoft have failed to make a noteworthy bang on the smartphone marketplace and cherish the same success as the Android Google’s platform or Apple iOS. The main reason behind this mismanagement of things was partly because of the troubles it had with its Apple app store, particularly; keep hold of apps once they had been developed completely.
Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft added that: “We are a leading company. If we got that one right, we would be the company. But oh well.” Microsoft is currently the most valuable company in the world, with a market cap of $1.05 trillion, but it vies for the top spot with Apple and Amazon.
Gates during an hour-long conversation also has underlined the accomplishment of its products such as Windows and Office that have helped the company to reach new heights in the marketplace. However, he also underlined that due to the lack of bringing Android platform in its mobile business he has missed the opportunity of powering an operating system that can work well against Apple’s iOS.
