After certain reports claimed that the Amphetamine app will be taken down from the App Store on 12 January, Apple confirmed that it will continue to exist on the platform.
The application that helps the user to keep their machine awake, was cautioned to be removed due to violations of the App Store guidelines. It was launched in 2014 and currently has 4,32,000 downloads.
A report by Macrumors revealed that the company was threatening to take down the app followed by a breach in App Store guidelines. The app developer was reached out by an Apple representative to brief that the app will be taken down on 12 January if the developer did not make a few changes in the app.
The company representative claimed that the app was promoting inappropriate use of controlled substances. As per the report, the representative said, “Apps that encourage consumption of tobacco and vape products, illegal drugs, or excessive amounts of alcohol are not permitted on the App Store. Apps that encourage minors to consume any of these substances will be rejected. Facilitating the sale of marijuana, tobacco, or controlled substances (except for licensed pharmacies) isn’t allowed.”
However, the app developer argued against Apple’s claims and set up a Change.org petition that reportedly gained over 500 signatures against the move. The developer later announced that after having a word with Apple regarding the issue, the latter agreed to let the app stay on App Store.
