The Indian government has taken into radar 2500 social media accounts which are allegedly spreading Chinese propaganda and disinformation on the Sino-Indian faceoff in the eastern part of Ladakh. As per the official sources, these accounts mainly active on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube have been traced to Hong Kong, United Kingdom, Russia, Pakistan, and China.
As per the analysis, out of the mentioned countries, a large number of handles were operated in Pakistan. An official revealed that “the IP (internet protocol) address of the user was either in Pakistan, UK, Russia, or China. In some countries where social media is banned, it is being accessed through a virtual private network (VPN).”
India has been working hard and have learned to abate this issue with the respective social media companies. They have blocked some accounts spreading distortion, whereas, a few of them are still left but under the watch list.
As per the official, “Many banned accounts reappear by changing handle names and details in the bio-data. In multiple cases, e-mail IDs and contact numbers required for opening accounts on social networking sites were found identical.”
This propaganda by the Chinese mouthpiece got the spark after August 29, when the Indian armed force impedes a move by PLA amid the rising tension between the two countries at the border. The Indian army positioned itself at four strategic peaks around the south bank of Pangong Tso.
The surge of tension has been making all the noises between the two countries. The Indian IT ministry had recently rolled down curtains over 175 Chinese apps alleging their “activities are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order.” The two countries have been involved in a tussle along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh since April. Both troops have battled out in Galwan Valley on June 15 which resulted in the death of 20 Indian soldiers. China has overly occupied 38,000 square km in Ladakh and claims 90,000 square km in Arunachal Pradesh in India’s perception of LAC.

However, the death tolls have not been static as the news regarding the same varies a lot. There have been tensions arising between the two nations for a fairly long time but both avoided clashes for 45 years through a bunch of protocols and tranquility agreements which are followed closely.
Amid the rising tension, this move could well be a psychological win for India. Let us see how far these things are going to go.
